What this estimate assumes
- Backing extra is added to each side of the finished quilt.
- Backing panels use the selected fabric width minus 4 inches for trimming.
- Binding uses the perimeter plus the selected waste percentage.
- For curved edges, directional fabric, or special layouts, add a fabric professional's review.
Common questions
What does this calculator estimate?
It estimates backing yardage, batting cut size, binding strips, and binding yardage from your quilt dimensions and fabric width.
How much extra backing should I add?
The default is 4 inches on each side. Change it to match your longarm, domestic machine, or shop's recommendation before buying fabric.
Is this a cutting guarantee?
No. It is a planning estimate. Directional fabric, seams, shrinkage, curved edges, and special layouts may require additional material.
